Guiding principles for successful conservation
Guiding Principles
If current problems in conservation were easy to solve, we would have figured them out already.

The "Three Cs" for durable conservation solutions:
  • Creativity: we are in an "all hands on deck" situation and it is the time for "outside the box" thinking. Therefore, we need all ideas and perspectives to generate new, innovative, solutions. When beneficial, we must take advantage of new data and technology that our predecessors didn't have.

  • Collaboration: no one is going to save the planet by themselves, nor should anyone try. We must bring together and apply everyone's skills, knowledge and perspectives. We must learn from past successes and failures to avoid constantly starting over or attempting to reinvent the wheel.

  • Complementarity: everyone has a role to play in conservation and what we do individually and collectively should be a piece of the larger patchwork of conservation solutions. Long-term and more widespread success is more likely when actions are coordinated and build off each other.
